Timer: Timer can perform the operations that are given below:
- Turning on and off the outputs after the completion of time delay.
- Turning on or off the output for a specific time.
- Determining the time when an output is in “on” or “off” condition.
Counter:
- It is similar to the timer concept.
- It is used to count the changes that are produced by the state of an outside trigger signal.
- It is a programmable logic controller (PLC) instruction that either counts up or counts down an integer value when produced by the change of a bit from “0” to “1” or “false” to “true”.
- In PLC, counter contains three types.
- Up counters.
- Down counters.
- Up/Down counters.
