Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation: The mechanism of the given reactions is to be written.
Concept introduction: The carboxylic acid and its derivatives undergo nucleophilic acyl substitution reaction. The incoming group is called as nucleophile and the substituent that departs from molecule is known as leaving group. If the attacking group is a good base as compared to the substiuent that is already present than attacking group will replace the existing substituent.

- When performing a Grignard reaction it is also very important that the reaction be free from acetone (a chemical we commonly use to clean the glassware). Why must the glassware be free from acetone? A. Acetone reacts with the diethyl ether causing a side reaction to occur B. Acetone is a nucleophile that will react with the Grignard reagent C. Acetone reacts with the bromobenzene D. Acetone is an electrophile that will react with the Grignard reagentarrow_forwardWhat is the mechanism, step by step, for this reaction? (Using carboxilic acid reactions)arrow_forwardBriefly explain why diethyl ether is the solvent of choice for Grignard reactions.arrow_forward
- write the reaction of the action of methyl-2, bromo-2-propane with hot KOH solution. a) Name the formed product b) Explain why the reaction takes place according to the SNI mechanismarrow_forward2-Chlorobutane reacts much more slowly than 2-chloro-2-methylpropane in the silver nitrate test. Explain this difference in reactivity.arrow_forwardWhat is the difference between activated pyridine and unactivated pyridinearrow_forward
- Case: In an attempt to synthesize compound 1a, the researchers mixed benzaldehyde, dimedone (IUPAC: 5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-1,3-dione), and 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole in ethanol as the solvent. A catalyst that acts both as a Bronsted-Lowry and as a Lewis acid was also added to aid the reaction. Benzaldehyde and dimedone reacts first with each other, then the resulting intermediate eventually reacts with the aminotriazole to form 1a. 1. Explain how benzaldehyde and dimedone reacts with each other, and then with the aminotriazole to form compound 1a in the presence of an acid catalyst. Provide a detailed reaction mechanism.arrow_forwardWhen ethyl bromide is added to potassium tert-butoxide, the product is ethyl tert-butyl ether. What happens to the rate if the temperature is raised?arrow_forward1. Give the structures of Compounds A, B, and C. 2. Give the compound that is represented by Reagent A. 3. Give the mechanism for reactions 2 and 3. 4. Give the mechanism for any other reaction choosing from 1, 4 and 5. 5. Give the name of reaction 5.arrow_forward
