The reason for using the non dispersive IR instruments for the determination of gases rather than dispersive IR spectrometers is to be stated.
Concept introduction:
The non dispersive IR instrument is a type of sensor used to determine the gases and also used to obtain the concentration of the carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. In this method, the wave of light is direct by the IR lamps through a tube towards an optical filter in the front of the infrared light detector. The tube (through which the wave of light passes) is filled with a sample of air. A very accurate and faster sensor is used in the non dispersive IR instrument.
