Concept Introduction:

The pH of a solution determines its nature.

pH  <  7 = acidic

pH  >  7 = basic

pH  =  7 = neutral

If the concentration of H+ is more than concentration of OH- , then the solution is said to be acidic in nature.

If the concentration of OH- is more than concentration of H+ , then the solution is said to be basic in nature.

If the concentration of OH- is equal to the concentration of H+ , then the solution is said to be neutral in nature.

To compare: The magnitude of [OH-] and [H+] in acidic, basic and neutral solution.
