A shaft carries four masses, B, C, and D of magnitude 200 kg, 300 kg, 400 kg, and 200 kg respectively and revolving at radii 80 mm, 70 mm, 60 mm, and 80 mm in planes measured from A at 300 mm, 400 mm and 700 mm. The angles between the cranks measured anticlockwise are A to B 45º, B to C 70º, and C to D 120º. the balancing masses are to be placed in planes X and Y. The distance between the planes A and X is 100 mm, between X and Y is 400 mm and between Y and D is 200 mm. If the balancing masses revolve at a radius of 100 mm, find their magnitude and angular positions.
A shaft carries four masses A, B, C and D of magnitude 10 kg, 20 kg, 15 kg and 25 kg respectively and revolving at radii 100 mm, 50 mm, 80 mm and 120mm in planes measured from A at 100 mm, 300 mm and 500 mm.
The angles between the cranks measured anticlockwise are A to B = 40°, B to C = 50° and C to D = 150°.
The balancing masses are to be placed in planes X and Y. The distance between the planes A and X is 50 mm, between X and Y is 350 mm.
If the balancing masses revolve at a radius of 50 mm, find the magnitude for mass on plane X (consider plane X as the refernce plane).
The connecting rod of a horizontal reciprocating engine is 400 mm and length of the stroke is 200mm. The mass of the reciprocating parts is 125 kg and that the connecting rod is 100 kg. The radius of gyration of the connecting rod about an axis through the centre of gravity is 120 mm and the distance of centre of gravity of the connecting rod from big end centre is 160 mm. The engine runs at750 r.p.m. Determine graphically the torque exerted on the crankshaft when the crank has turned 30° from the inner dead centre.

The coordinate axes shown are the principal centroidal axes of inertia of the satellite, and its radii of gyration are kx = kz= 0.90 m and ky = 0.98 m. The satellite is equipped with a main 500-N thruster E and four 20-N thrusters A, B, C, and D, that can expel fuel in the positive y direction. One engineer, Chersiphron, tried several different techniques to do this. One method was to cut pivot holes into the ends of the stone and then use oxen to pull the column. The 4-ft diameter column weighs 12,000 lbs, and the team of oxen generates a constant pull force of 1500 lbs on the center of the cylinder G. Knowing that the column starts from rest and rolls without slipping, determine (a) the velocity of its center G after it has moved 5 ft, (b) the minimum static coefficient of friction that will keep it from slipping.arrow_forward
