Chapter 18, Problem 18.5P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Difference between transmittance, absorbance, and molar absorptivity has to be stated and one that is proportional top concentration has to be identified.

Concept Introduction:

Beer's law suggests absorbance of a species defines the extent of absorption or absorptivity for certain fixed wavelength of monochromatic radiation varies linearly with concentration of species capable to absorb.

Similarly, transmittance is defined as extent of ability of substance to transmit radiation of fixed wavelength when it passes across it.

Molar absorptivity is a coefficient that appears in Beers’ law. It measures the extent of light absorbed at a certain wavelength. Molar absorptivity is denoted by the symbol ε. SI unit for Molar absorptivity is M1cm1.
