More the surface area of a body or object, more the heat will be transferred from surroundings or from heat source into the body.
Batch of cupcakes has greater surface area than a cake. So for the same amount of time, if someone heats a cake and a batch of cupcakes, then greater heat will reach to the interior of the cupcakes than a cake. That means batch of cupcakes take less time to bake than a cake.
Conclusion:
Therefore, if a batch of cupcakes is baked for a time as long as the time for baking a cake, the batch of cupcakes will be overcooked.
