Given:

Number of littlespheres, n=8

Diameter of a littlesphere, d1=1mm

Formula Used:

The volume of sphere is, V=43πr3

Where, r is radius of sphere.

The total surface area of sphere is, S=4πr2

Where, r is radius of sphere.

Calculation:

Volume of a littlesphere, V1=43πr13

And volume of a combined single sphere, V2=43πr23

The volume of the combined singlesphere will be equal to the volume of the all littlespheres.

So,

  V2=nV143πr23=8×43πr13r2=2r1or d2=2d1=2×1mm=2mm

It means the single sphere will be twice of the diameter of the little sphere.

Now,

The total surface area of littlesphere is,

  S1=nS=8×4πr12

While the total surface area of the combined singlesphere is,

  S2=4πr22

So, S2S1=4πr228×4πr12=18(2)2S2=12S1
