Chapter 18, Problem 59P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

To explain the regulation of cellular respiration.

Concept introduction:

Cellular respiration is the process in which the food taken is used to create ATP, a form of energy. During this process waste products are also released from the body. Generally, oxygen is used in this process, so it is termed as aerobic respiration. This process is comprised ofthe following stages, glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, citric acid cycle, ETC, and ATP synthesis.

Explain in detail of the process of cellular respiration, including all the stages of cellular respiration (glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, citric acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation) and explain the substrate and product of each pathway. And make a table of the products formed at the end of glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, citric acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation (ATPs, NADHs, water, and carbon dioxide). Then discuss about oxidation-reduction of various molecules that are a part of these pathways.
Explain why the process of Anaerobic Respiration is so important, (providing reference to glycolysis, the role of coenzymes, and ATP formation).
Identify the cellular respiration pathway where glucose, fats, and proteins commonly enter.
