Introduction:
The ABO blood group includes blood type A, type B, type AB, and type O. The blood type of a person is determined by the occurrence (hereditary) or non-occurrence of antigens A and B on the erythrocytes.
The occurrence or non-occurrence of antigens and antibodies on the erythrocytes and in the plasma of the receiver and donor needs to be considered. The groups are named depending on the occurrence or non-occurrence of antigens on the RBCs.
