Concept introduction:
Steroids are the compounds which contain steroid nucleus in their structure. The steroid nucleus consists of four rings of carbon that are fused together. These rings are arranged in a particular molecular configuration. Attachment of various atoms and group of atoms with the nucleus of steroid leads to the formation of a huge variety of other steroid compounds such as Cholesterol, testosterone. Cholesterol is one of the most important as well as abundant steroid found in human body is a sterol as it contains oxygen atom in the form of hydroxyl (-OH) group.
