Question
Chapter 19, Problem 3E
Summary Introduction
To describe: The spectral characteristics of the dominant photosynthetic pigments in the algae.
Concept introduction:
The pigments that are present in the photosynthetic bacteria or chloroplasts to capture the light energy required for the photosynthesis process are known as photosynthetic pigments.
Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast of the plant cell that contains the green pigment chlorophyll. Some of the pigments include carotene, chlorophylls a and b, xanthophylls, and phaeophytins a and b.
