Concept explainers
How does water pressure 1 meter below the surface of a small pond compare with water pressure 1 meter below the surface of a huge lake?
To Compare: The water pressure 1 meter below the surface of a small pond with water pressure 1 meter below the surface of a huge lake.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The pressure of liquid which was at rest depends on three things.
- Density 2. Gravity 3. Depth
Pressure of a liquid is directly proportional to depth.
As depth is same in small pond and huge lake of water, the water pressure is same. Though the volume of huge lake is large compared to the pond, the pressure at 1 m depth is same. Water pressure does not depend on volume.
Conclusion:
Water pressure is equal in pond and lake at 1m depth.
