Concept explainers
How does the buoyant force that acts on a fish compare with the weight of the fish?
To Compare: The buoyant force that acts on the fish with the weight of the fish.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Buoyant force is the net upward force exerted by a liquid on the submerged object.
When the weight of the object is greater than the buoyant force, the object would sink and if it is less, itwould float. If it is equal, then object floats freelywithin liquid. Fish weight is equal to buoyant force. It cancels any force that is acting on the fish due to which fish swims freely.
Conclusion:
The buoyant force equal to weight of the fish.
