Concept introduction: Tight junctions are the type of cell junctions where two adjacent cells join together and constitute the barrier. These are connected by transmembrane proteins including occludins and claudins. Transmembrane proteins form paracellular pores making the junction selectively permeable through which specific molecules pass across tight junctions.
