Chapter 19, Problem 8RQ
Summary Introduction

To review:

The known and unknown facts about the following archaeal groups: marine pelagic Crenarchaeotes, marine benthic anaerobes, soil and plant root-associated Crenarchaeotes and the experiments that reveal their additional traits.

Introduction:

The name Crenarchaeota is derived from the amorphous scalloped cell shape. They include hyperthermophiles, mesophiles, and psychrophiles. The cell membrane of Crenarchaeota is tetraether, surrounded by an S-layer. They can tolerate a wide range of growth temperatures. Their habitats include submarine hydrothermal vents and hot springs.
