Chapter 19.2, Problem 2R
Summary Introduction

To review:

A situation where an artificial, impermeable membrane were placed between anchor cell and underlying cells of the developing nematode.

Introduction:

The nematode also known as Caenorhabditis elegans is a hermaphrodite animal. A hermaphrodite may be defined as an organism having both male and female reproductive parts in the same body. They lay eggs with the help of a small opening called vulva, which is present on the lower surface of the body. The whole body is developed from a specialized cell, which is known as anchor cell.

Describe the feeding process of a sponge. Make sure to use the following vocabulary in your answer: spongocoel, choanocytes, phagocytosis. What are some possible functions of spicules and spongin? How are these sponge parts alike and different? Why is sexual reproduction beneficial for sponges (or other organisms)? When could asexual reproduction be beneficial?
Compare and contrast the body coverings of a free-living turbellarian, a monogenaen fluke, a cestode, and a nematode. Which problems does each solve or create? Be sure to consider locomotion, permeability, ciliation, and habitat, and to think of the entire life cycle.
Explain the interaction of cuticle, body-wall muscles, and pseudocoe-lomic fluid in locomotion of nematodes.
