A small trailer and its load have a total mass of 250 kg. The trailer is supported by two springs, each of constant 10 kN/m, and is pulled over a road, the surface of which can be approximated by a sine curve with an amplitude of 40 mm and a wavelength of 5 m (i.e., the distance between successive crests is 5 m and the vertical distance from crest to trough is 80 mm). Determine (a) the speed at which resonance occur, (b) the amplitude of the vibration of the trailer at a speed of 50 km/h.

- The natural frequency of a small car is found to be 20 rad/sec when it is EMPTY. When the car is LOADED with 250 kg its natural frequency becomes 17 rad/sec. What is the mass of the car (m)? Treat the car as a mass-spring system of stiffness K and mass m.arrow_forwardAn automobile is modeled as a single-degree-of-freedom system vibrating in the vertical direction. It is driven along a road whose elevation varies sinusoidally. The distance from peak to valley () is 0.2 m and the distance along the road between the peaks is 35 m. If the natural frequency of the automobile is 2 Hz and the damping ratio of the shock absorbers is 0.15, determine the amplitude of vibration of the automobile at a speed of 60 km/hour. If the speed of the automobile is varied, find the most unfavorable speed for the passengers.arrow_forwardIn vibration testing, an instrumented hammer is often used to hit a device to excite it and to measure the impact force simultaneously. It emits echolocation pulses at a frequency of 40 kHz, well above the range of human hearing. To allow observers to “hear” these bats, the bat detector as shown combines the bat’s sound wave at frequency f1 with a wave of frequency f2 from a tunable oscillator. The resulting beat frequency is isolated with a filter, then amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. To what frequency should the tunable oscillator be set to produce an audible beat frequency of 3 kHz?arrow_forwardfind the mass of the automobile by treating it as an undamped single-degree-of-freedom system?(Need handwritten solution only please otherwise downvote)arrow_forward
