Summary Introduction

Archaeal and bacterial cells varies in size ranging from 0.2 µm to >700 µm in diameter. Cell wall and cytoplasmic membrane are considered as the most vital structures of a cell. In a bacterial cell, cell wall provides rigidity and shape of the cell. It also prevents the bacterial cell from lysis due to an increased osmotic pressure. The wide range of cell wall structures, including wall made up of proteins, glycoproteins, polysaccharides is seen in Archaea.
