Question
Chapter 2.11, Problem 3MQ
Summary Introduction
The outer membrane present exterior of the cell wall potentially acts as another lipid bilayer of a bacterial cell. O-specific polysaccharide, core polysaccharide, KDO, and lipid A are the major components of a typical bacterial LPS layer. The presence of outer membrane in a gram-negative bacteria provides only a modest strength to the cell. However, it plays a potential role in protecting the cytoplasmic membrane from several agents like lipophilic antibiotics and various substances harmful to the membrane.
