Chapter 2, Problem 26RQ
Summary Introduction
To examine: Whether the statement “Progestin-only contraceptives are related to increased blood glucose and LDL cholesterol levels” is true or false.
Introduction: Hormonal contraceptives are used to prevent pregnancy. They contain forms of estrogen and/or progesterone hormone (natural or synthetic form). They are two types: combination hormonal contraceptives (in which both the hormones are present) and progestin-only contraceptives (with only progesterone hormone or a synthetic analogue (progestin)). Progestin hormone functions by blocking the action of the luteinizing hormone, ovulation, and preventing sperm entry, and thus it can effectively prevent pregnancy.
