The reasons for which chair conformations are more accurate representations of the molecular shapes of hexopyranoses than Haworth projections should be determined.
Concept Introduction:
The chair conformation of a hexopyranose represents the structure of the hexopyranose in which some hydrogen atoms are arranged along the boundary of the chair-shaped carbon ring and some hydrogen atoms are arranged along the top and the bottom of the carbon ring. In Haworth projection of hexopyranose, groups of atoms are arranged only at the top or bottom of the carbon ring.
