Concept explainers
Interpretation:
To determine the following:
Major class for each of the following enzymes
a. acyltransferase
b. oxidase
c. lipase
d. decarboxylase
Concept introduction:
Enzymes are generally classified into six major classes based on the types of reaction they catalyse. The six classed are following:
1. Oxidoreductases (catalyses reaction in which a substrate is either oxidized or reduced)
2. Transferases (catalyses reaction in which functional groups are transferred from one molecule to another.
3. Hydrolases (catalyses a hydrolysis reaction)
4. Lyases (Catalyses those reaction in which a group is eliminated to form a double bond)
5. Isomerases (catalyses isomerization reactions)
6. Ligases (catalyses formation of a bond with ATP hydrolysis)
