Nuclear fission is type of reaction in which large and heavy nucleus breaks into smaller nuclei. This process associated with the release of free neutrons and gamma photons along with large amount of energy. A radioactive decay process where heavy nuclide split into smaller fragments can also be termed as nuclear fission reaction though this type of fission reaction is very rare. Nuclear fission was first discovered by German Scientist Otto Hahn and his assistant Fritz Strassmann in 1938.
