An iron rod is held up by a magnet as shown. The magnet is held up by a string.
1. In the spaces below, sketch a free-body diagram for the iron rod and a separate free-body diagram for the magnet.
The label for each of the forces on your diagrams should indicate:
- the type of force (e.g., gravitational, normal),
- the object on which the force is exerted, and
- the object exerting the force.
2. For each of the forces shown in your diagram for the iron rod, identify the corresponding force that completes the
3. How would your diagram for the iron rod change if the magnet were replaced with a stronger magnet? Which forces would change (in type or in magnitude)? Which forces would remain the same?

- Okay, i understand 95% of the solution to this question in regards to zero net force. On top of that, i understand most of the algebra. Where i get lost is the last part of the algebra when the professor goes from. (sqrt Iq1/q2)(x2-xo) =x1-xo to the final step before he plugs in the numbers. If you can help me understand that algebra step i would really appreciate it.arrow_forwardPlease ONLY answer 3,4,5 im just posting 1 and 2 as reference THANK YOU 1. A magnet of mass 4.44 kg is suspended from the ceiling by a cord as shown. A large magnet is somewhere off to the right, pulling on the small hanging magnet with a constant force of F = 65.3 N. At what angle theta ?with respect to the vertical does the magnet hang? 2. Consider the same situation as in the previous problem. This time the magnet has mass 6.75 kg and the force pulling the magnet to the right has magnitude 56.1 N. What is the magnitude of the tension force in the cord? 3. Same situation as in the previous two problems this time the magnet s mass is 4.56 kg and the magnetic force pulling it to the right is 117.2 N. The length of the cord is 1.97 m, and the ceiling is 2.68 m above the floor. Suppose that you cut the cord and the magnet falls to the floor while still being pulled to the right by the force of 117.2 N. How long will it take the magnet to hit the floor? 4.
