Chapter 21, Problem 3TQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
Challenges and opportunities for the microorganisms in photic and benthic zones.
Introduction:
The photic zone or sunlight zone is the ocean’s uppermost layer which receives sunlight enabling photosynthesis to take place. It undergoes a series of physical, chemical, and biological processes in the upper water column that supply nutrients. Owing to its location, the photic zone houses most of the marine life. The ocean’s benthic zone begins at the shoreline and extends down the continental shelf surface to the sea.
