Mitochondria synthesizes acetyl-CoA by reactions such as “oxidative carboxylation of pyruvate”, amino acid catabolism, and β-oxidation of fatty acids. Transportation of acetyl-CoA through the “inner mitochondrial membrane” to cytosol occurs by two mechanisms: carnitine dependent transport and citrate shuttle.
