Summary Introduction

Deinococci are rod-shaped, spherical, non-motile bacteria. These bacteria are frequently seen in tetrads or pairs. They are aerobic heterotrophs that produce acid only from a few sugars. These bacteria are Gram-positive and contain L-ornithine in their peptidoglycan layer but lack teichoic acid. S-layer is present in their membrane envelope.
