Ribose and deoxyribose are pentose sugars.  They are made of five carbon atoms.  These sugars are part of nucleic acids which constitutes the RNA and DNA molecule respectively. 

These sugar molecules combine with base and forms nucleoside (without phosphate group) or nucleotide (with phosphate group).
