Chapter 22.3, Problem 1RC
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The dipeptides that can be formed from serine and cysteine have to be drawn.

Concept introduction:

  • Amino acid is a molecule that contains amine functional group and carboxyl functional group.
  • Amine functional group is (NH2) and carboxyl functional group is (COOH) and a R(alkyl) group is considered as side chain, when all these are bonded to same carbon atom.
  • In protein the amide bond (CONH ) can link together with two amino acids to form a peptide bond, by the release of water.
  • A dipeptide results from the formation of a peptide bond between the NH2 group of the amino acid and the COOH group of the second amino acid.
  • The peptide chain are named together with the first three letter of the amino acid joined with a hyphen.
