Introduction:

At the entrance of pharynx, there are patches of lymphatic tissues commonly known as tonsils. They guard against ingested and inhaled pathogens. Tonsils are covered by epithelium and consist of deep pits lined by lymphatic nodules. These pits are known as tonsillar crypts that contain food debris, bacteria, dead leukocytes, and antigenic chemicals.
