Introduction:

Substituted hydrocarbons are formed when the hydrogen atom of a hydrocarbon is replaced by a functional group.

Both alcohols and organic acids are substituted hydrocarbons, that is, both take the place of hydrogen atoms in a hydrocarbon. For formation of alcohol, an -OH group replaces hydrogen atoms and for the formation of an organic acid, a -COOH replaces hydrogen atoms. Thus, both have different functional groups.

Conclusion:

Ethanol, C2H5OH is an example of alcohol while acetic acid, CH3COOH is an example of organic acid.
