Chapter 23, Problem 19TYR
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The conversion of urine from the blood plasma by the kidneys happens in four stages. They are tubular secretion, tubular reabsorption, water conservation, and glomerular filtration. Tracing of fluid in the nephron will have varying names that is revealed in its altering composition. (1) The glomerular filtrate is a fluid found on the capsular space, it is very much alike the blood plasma but has no protein. (2) The tubular fluid is the fluid that enters distal convoluted tubule to proximal convoluted tubule. (3) When the collecting tubules collects these fluids, it is called as urine, since it goes through some variations.

When antidiuretic hormone (ADH) levels are low this causes ________.
less of the water reaching the collecting ducts to be reabsorbed
more aquaporins to be activated to increase the reabsorption of water
vasodilation of the efferent arteriole to increase the glomerular filtration rate
the urine to have a very high concentration of ions and nitrogenous wastes
As the filtrate moves down the collecting duct of the nephron ______.
no urea is reabsorbed because urea is a waste product that the body needs to get rid of
urea is actively transported into the filtrate to prevent it from accumulating in the renal medulla
some urea is reabsorbed from the filtrate in order to increase the osmolarity of the renal medulla
The cells lining the nephron component marked by the black asterisk
1. bind the 'parathyroid hormone' to increase the reabsorption of calcium ions from the filtrate into peritubular capillary blood
2. Function to regulate pH of the blood by secreting bicarbonate ions and reabsorbing hydrogen ions
3. bind the hormone 'aldosterone' to increase sodium reabsorption from the filtrate (with passive reabsorption of water)
Choose from the following:
(A) 1
(B) 2
(C) 3
(D) 1 and 2
(E) 2 and 3
(F) 1, 2, and 3
