Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The general effect of insulin on catabolic and anabolic biosynthetic processes has to be determined.
Concept Introduction:
Catabolic processes are those that generate energy from degradation of large molecules such as the citric acid cycle while the anabolic processes refer to those that help to create large molecules such as triglycerides, ketone bodies from smaller units. Examples of anabolic processes include fatty acid synthesis.
Insulin is an important anabolic peptide hormone that regulates various metabolic processes, such as carbohydrate
The main role of insulin is that it reduces the blood glucose concentration, and hence the diabetes manifest in the presence of lack of insulin.
