Summary Introduction

Skin is the largest organ of the body. It has three layers. Epidermis is the outer layer of the skin that provides “waterproof barrier”. The dermis, present under the epidermis and it contains connective tissue and hair follicles. The deeper layer is made up of fat and connective tissue.

Skin is constantly exposed to outer environment which makes it susceptible to various kinds of microorganisms. There are many microbes which forms the normal flora of skin, for example: there are approximately one million resident bacteria in per square centimeter of skin.
