Chapter 23.5, Problem 19COQ
Summary Introduction

To explain:

The term “genetic instability”.

Introduction:

Mutation is a change in the sequence of genetic material either due to the errors in DNA replication or due to the changes in the environment. Chromosomal mutations occur due to abnormality, aberrations, disorder or mutation in the segment of DNA leading to extra, irregular or missing portions of chromosomal DNA. Most tumors contain cells with “chromosomal mutation”.

Summary Introduction

To determine:

Some ways in which genomic instability may arise.

Introduction:

Defects in the repair mechanism of DNA may also contribute to chromosomal rearrangement and genetic instability. Many repair system of DNA makes double and single-strand breaks in the DNA as a part of the mechanism. If these breaks are not repaired properly with time then they often result in a rearrangement of chromosomes and condition of genetic instability.
