Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The explanation has to be given for the display in a reconstructed total ion chromatogram in selected ion monitoring and in selected reaction monitoring. The most and least selective technique has to be given and explained.

Concept Introduction:

Mass spectrometry is used as sensitive detector to offer both qualitative and quantitative data. With the help of selected ion monitoring or selected reaction monitoring, one can measure one component of poorly separated compounds in a complex chromatograph. The detection limit is lowered by a factor of ${\text{10}}^{\text{2}}{\text{-10}}^{\text{3}}$ when compared with scanning of $\text{m/z}$ in selected ion monitoring. This is because high time is spent in collecting ions of interest in selected ion monitoring.
