Gummas represent rubbery, swollen lesions that can occur in bones, in nervous tissue, or on the skin. It is a non-cancerous growth that occurs through a tertiary stage of syphilis. Gumma is caused due to the reaction of spirochaete bacteria within the tissues, which results in hampering the action of bacteria. It is a remarkable immune response produced by the human body against syphilis.
