Chapter 24.7, Problem 1CR
Summary Introduction
When a child is born, its gut is initially sterile (free of any microbe), but it soon gets colonized after the child gets exposed to the environment. Gut microbial community consists of all the microorganisms that are associated with the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. The gut of an infant is mainly dominated by the presence of Bifidobacterium, which is a fermentative anaerobic organism, but the gut microbial community keeps changing with the type of feed, that is provided to the child.
