Concept explainers
(a) Interpretation:
If a gene underwent a mutation that changed a GAA codon to UAA codon, the amino acid encoded by the original triplet should be determined.
Concept Introduction:
A mutation is referred to as nonsense mutation where the codon for a specific amino acid has been changed to stop the codon and this leads to the termination of the translation process of the polypeptide chain.
(b) Interpretation:
A transfer RNA (tRNA) anticodon which can translate the nonsense UAA triplet should be identified.
Concept Introduction:
A mutation is referred to as nonsense mutation where the codon for a specific amino acid has been changed to stop the codon and this leads to the termination of the translation process of the polypeptide chain.
(c) Interpretation:
The other amino acids which could be encoded by the mutant transfer RNA should be determined.
Concept Introduction:
A mutation is referred to as nonsense mutation where the codon for a specific amino acid has been changed to stop the codon and this leads to the termination of the translation process of the polypeptide chain.
