Chapter 25, Problem 43P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The mechanism for the synthesis of fatty acyl-CoA with the help of the enzyme Acyl-CoAsynthase has to be proposed.

Concept Introduction:

Glycolysis: It is pathway which describes conversion of one molecule of glucose into two molecules of pyruvate. The series involves 10 reactions.

NAD+Molecule: It is the oxidized form of Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) which exists in all cells and needed for activation of enzymes.

NADHmolecule: It is coenzyme which gets oxidized on reducing another compound. The oxidized form of NADHisNAD+.

Fatty acid conversion to fatty acyl-CoA: Many steps are involved in the catabolism of fats in our body.  A fatty acid formed can be converted into fatty acyl-CoA in the presence of an enzyme called Acyl-CoAsynthase.  The fatty acid should be activated before it can be metabolized.

Cells can also convert a-keto acids into amino acids, but because the reagents organic chemists use for this reaction are not available in cells, they carry out this reaction by a different mechanism. a. What amino acid is obtained from the reductive amination of each of the following metabolic intermediates in a cell by reductive amination? b. What amino acids are obtained from the same metabolic intermediates when the amino acids are synthesized in the laboratory?
draw the chemical structures of the reactant and product of the following reactions: a.) addition of a phosphate group to (ex: phosphorylation of) glycose b.) addition of a phosphate group to (ex: phosphorylation of) fructose-6-phosphate c.) addition of a phosphate group to (ex: phosphorylation of) phosphoenolpyruvate
What acyl group does pyruvate decarboxylase transfer to a proton?
