Prokaryotes can be autotrophs, heterotrophs, phototrophs, chemotrophs, aerobic or anaerobic, and some metabolize nitrogen or sulfur compounds. Some prokaryotes have the ability to metabolize nitrogen. They get energy from nitrogen metabolism. These are even beneficial to the other organisms, aiding them in fulfilling their nutritional requirements.
