Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The carrier of the “two carbon units” used to biosynthesize a fatty acid has to be identified.
Concept introduction:
Lipogenesis is the pathway for the generation of fatty acid from acetyl CoA. There is a cyclic process that occurs in the enzyme fatty acid synthase. It is a multienzyme complex that ties the reaction responsible for the synthesis of fatty acid.
A cyclic process occurs in the enzyme fatty acid synthase. The one turn of this cyclic process constitutes four reactions. The various intermediates formed in the process are associated with a carrier protein known as ACP. The reactions associated with the chain elongation process for the synthesis of fatty acid occurs in the cell cytosol.
