To review:
The fact that how the fundamental asymmetry of sex operates in two different species, that is, the species with males not participating in parental care and species with males contributing equally in parental care with females. Due to these differences, is there any difference in the sexual dimorphism exhibited by these species.
Introduction:
In most of the species, the females tend to invest more in the parental care of their offsprings as compared to males. This phenomenon is called the fundamental asymmetry of sex. The consequence of this phenomenon is that the fitness of the female is reduced by the ability to collect
In addition to this, the male fitness is reduced by the number of females he can mate with. Along with this phenomenon, there comes the sexual dimorphism which affects the fundamental asymmetry of sex in one way or another. The sexual dimorphism is the difference in the presence of more traits in males than females as a consequence of male-male competition for courtship with females.

- we discuss various mechanisms of sex determination, including the XX/XY system of placental mammals, and the ZZ/ZW system of birds. Monotremes, the most primitive mammals, have a very intriguing sex determination scheme that shares elements of both of these systems. Please use the internet to learn more about how sex in monotremes is determined. Then write a short essay (300-400 words) describing this system and comparing/contrasting it to the XX/XY and ZZ/ZW systems.arrow_forwardIn seahorses, males incubate and care for offspring. Thus, the males are more likely to be tied up in reproduction at any point in time relative to females. Which sex do you predict will be the choosey sex in this species and why? Based on what you know about sperm competition, what would you predict about differences between these two species in female re-mating frequency and sperm viability? Which one of the following scenarios is LEAST likely to result in a polygynous mating system? Male stalk-eyed flies form leks where receptive females come visit Male Neotropical giant damselfly defend water-filled tree holes, which are the oviposition sites for females. Suitable tree holes for oviposition are rare and females must mate with the resident male in exchange for access to the oviposition sites. Male Bengal tigers defend large territories that contain food sources. Female Bengal tigers visit male territories to mate. The density of the Bengal tiger is extremely low that male tigers rarely encounter more than one female in their lifetime.
