Textbook Problem

What problems can occur to stainless steel as it is allowed to form carbide precipitation during welding?

To determine

Problem in stainless steel on carbide precipitation during welding.

Stainless steels have four groups of alloys such as ferritic, austenitic, martensitic and precipitation hardening. The most common group is austenitic group. Austenitic group is also known as chromium-nickel group. Austenitic group stainless steel has chromium-nickel content as 18-8, 25-12, 25-20, and so-on. It has less amount of carbon (0.08% to 0.2% carbon). To increase its weldability the carbon content is kept low as much as possible. Austenitic group's chromium content gives resistance to corrosion and its nickel content produces the tough austenitic microstructure...
