Water is pumped from a 200-ft-deep well into a 100-ft-high storage tank. Determine the power, in kW, that would be required to pump 200 gal/min.
Note: Use three decimal places and no need to input the unit.
A 7-hp (shaft) pump is used to raise water to an elevation of 15 m. If the mechanical efficiency of the pump is 82 percent, determine the maximum volume flow rate of water. (in cubic meters per second)
A fountain and a water tank will be powered by water from a nearby lake. The elevations and pipe connections are depicted in the diagram below. The fountain's jet water should reach a height of at least 2.5 m from the nozzle outlet. The tank, on the other hand, is elevated to allow gravity to distribute water. The table below contains the specifications for nozzles, suction and discharge pipes. What is the minimum power input to the pump in kW, assuming negligible minor head losses? Assume that the pump efficiency is 88 percent and the motor efficiency is 95 percent. The fountain's water is returned to the lake via a drainage system.
