Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The codons with a purine base A or G as the second base has to be compared whether the majority of amino acids coded by these codons are having hydrophilic or hydrophobic side chains.
Concept Introduction:
The amino acids whose side chains are not present in contact with the aqueous medium or the side chains are inside the protein core are said to be hydrophobic amino acids. The amino acids with hydrophobic side chains are Alanine, Valine, Leucine, Isoleucine, Proline, Phenylalanine, Methionine and Tryptophan.
The amino acids whose side chains are present in contact with the aqueous medium are said to be hydrophilic amino acids. The amino acids with hydrophilic side chains are Serine, Threonine, Cysteine, Asparagine, Glutamine, Histidine, Lysine, Aspartic acid, Glutamic acid, Arginine, Glycine and Tyrosine.

- Explain why the base sequence AGAC could not be a codon.arrow_forwardWhich of the following statements about the genetic code are true and which are false? Correct each false statement. a.Each codon is composed of four bases. b.Some amino acids are represented by more than one carbon. c.All codons represent an amino acid. d.Each living species is thought to have its own unique genetic code. e.The codon AUG at the beginning of a sequence is a signal for protein synthesis to begin at that codon. f.It is not known if the code contains stop signals for protein synthesis.arrow_forwardDraw the complete structure of the ribonucleotide codon UAC. For what amino acid does this sequence code?arrow_forward
- Write the base sequence for the mRNA that would be formed during transcription from the DNA strand with the base sequence GCCATATTG.arrow_forwardDescribe the experiment that allowed researchers to first identify the codon for a specific amino acid.arrow_forwardThe DNA template strand segment 3TTCAAACCGTAC5 upon transcription and translation produces the amino acid sequence Lys-Phe-Gly-Met. What is the amino acid sequence produced if a frameshift mutation occurs in which the third A base in the original DNA sequence is removed?arrow_forward
