Chapter 28, Problem 29P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The reaction mechanisms that show the formation of poly(ethylene oxide) from ethylene oxide by taking (H3O+) as an acid and (OH) as a base is to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Polymerization is the process that consists linkage of smaller molecular together into a large unit that called as a polymer. These smaller molecules then after called as a monomer of that polymer. Generally, there are two types of polymerization:

>

Anionic polymerization: This polymerization is taken place due to the action of nucleophiles on an electron deficient site of the given monomer. This polymerization occurs in three steps, initiation, propagation and termination.

>

Cationic polymerization This polymerization is taken place due to the action of electrophiles on an electron rich site of the given monomer. Thispolymerization occurs in three steps, initiation, propagation and termination.
