Chapter 28, Problem 30CQ
Summary Introduction

To explain: The aberrant properties of immunoglobulins that are produced by a B cell, in which allelic exclusion is defective.

Introduction: Immunoglobulins also known as antibodies have light and heavy chains. The gene segments coding for these include the groups of variable (V), diversity (D), joining (J), and constant (C) regions. The heavy chain has three gene loci- V, D, and J. The light chain has two regions- V and J. Due to allelic exclusion, heavy and light genes of only one parental chromosome are expressed per cell. It forms the basis of adaptive immune system and monospecificity of B cells.
