Summary Introduction

Once the bacteria reach the stationary phase, it stops to grow due to loss of nutrient availability. Even when some bacteria are transferred to fresh medium, no cell growth is seen, since the bacteria as lost its viability to grow. Yet, some microbiologists suggest that the bacteria are temporarily unable to grow. The microbiologists suggest two hypotheses (Viable but nonculturable and programmed cell death) to for this condition of the bacteria.
